Consulting with
leaders can put your finger on the pulse of work/life issues at your
organization, or organizations you serve, and expand your ability to improve individual and team
performance and morale. The benefits are great. The investment
required? Those serving as consultants must encourage leaders to
recognize and meet challenges that affect workforce performance, morale, readiness, and retention. To do this, those serving in this capacity need the
strategies and skills of effective consultants.
Consulting Tools offers field-tested strategies, action learning
opportunities, and coaching to build know-how, confidence, and skill as
a consultant. The workshop provides an overview of consulting, and
addresses consulting tasks required at different stages of service
planning and delivery. Each session introduces core concepts via
interactive exercises, briefings, and demonstration. Guided practice,
self-reflection, group discussion, and coaching assist participants to
apply new skills and evaluate results. Participants will be given
assignments to use consulting techniques in their work with leaders or
customers. Experience will stimulate learning and build a bridge
between the classroom and on-the-job application of skills.
Participating fully can mean breakthroughs in the work you do on behalf
of your organization and for those you serve.
The workshop includes three sequential components, which can be delivered separately or as a complete 3-4 day course. Sessions include:
> Tools of Engagement: How to Develop
Effective Consulting Relationships with Leaders-- This session
presents an overview of the consulting cycle, and practical strategies
for the initial tasks of engaging leaders, exploring desired outcomes,
and “contracting”to plan and deliver relevant services.
> Partnering on Service Plans-- Participants explore and practice how to: assess conditions that affect
performance or morale, provide feedback to leaders, use Results
Management concepts to define specific results for improvement, and
develop collaborative plans to achieve target results.
> Teaming Up to Deliver Results-- Participants review “Best Practice” strategies and build skills to:
monitor progress of planned activities, recognize and meet
collaborative service challenges, and evaluate impact of service
delivery. A team or organization Renewal Meeting concludes the workshop
and sets the stage for continued organizational learning and growth of
collaboration and capacity.
* The 3 day workshop is designed for an individual work team;
the 4 day is designed for workshops involving participants from
multiple organizations. Both workshops include a workbook and a
set of Consulting CardsTM (pocket cards summarizing key concepts/techniques) for each participant.
